The Best Way to Play Near Philly: LEGOLAND® Discovery Center (Sponsored by LEGOLAND® Discovery Center)

1 Thessalonians 5:11: Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

While in the Philly area visiting family this past week for Thanksgiving, we thought we’d sneak in a little mini-trek to LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Philadelphia.

Now, it’s no secret that the James family are a little LEGOLAND®-obsessed {we’ll be doing an official LEGOLAND® Florida review this spring!} so it’s important to mention that if your kids aren’t much into LEGO®, the Discovery Center may not be your place.

But for the James family, our hearts will always be made out of LEGO®!

We couldn’t get the boys to stop playing to take a pic!

Before I share some of our favorites from Philly’s LEGOLAND® Discovery Center, don’t feel too bummed if you won’t be anywhere near the Philadelphia area anytime soon! There are over 11 Discovery Centers located throughout the U.S. alone: Tempe, AZAtlanta, GABoston, MAChicago, ILColumbus, OHDallas, TXKansas City, MOAuburn Hills, MISan Antonio, TX and West Chester, NY.

Landon’s Favorite:

While the locations are not all the same, each of them have their own featured ride and entertainment and Landon was a sneaky little ninja to score his favorite: LEGO® NINJAGO! I had to put the camera down so that we could practice our ninja skills on the obstacle courses of the LEGO® NINJAGO Training Camp (Landon thinks he literally became a ninja!), but the camp is a fun beat-the-clock type laser race.

We also took a ride (or three!) on the Imagination Express, where Landon/Daddy sadly beat Griffin and I to get the most NINJAGO points. Wah!

Griffin’s Favorite:

Griff is our superactive dude, so he spent a long duration of our visit running around on the Pirate Adventure Island. With some seriously cool obstacles and climbing challenges, this playground isn’t for the faint of heart. But our almost three-year old is always up for a good playground challenge!

It’s a bit of a tie for Griffin, though, because he really enjoyed building his own LEGO® car and racing it down the slide at the LEGO® Racers: Build and Test. He absolutely was tickled that he beat his car everytime!

Dad’s Favorite:

Just like at LEGOLAND® Florida, Dad’s favorite was the 4D Cinema. The boys loved the LEGO® City 4D show and grabbed for bubbles as they popped in the air. That was the longest time that Griffin ever sat still – he didn’t want to miss a minute!

Mom’s Favorite:

I may be a little biased here, but I saved the best part of LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Philadelphia for last: MINILAND®. I always love to walk around Miniland in LEGOLAND® Florida to see the Vegas, NYC and other big landmarks made out of LEGO®. But seeing the Philadelphia skyline, Geno’s Steaks and the Eagles stadium made out of LEGO®, made me fall in LOVE.

Trek Difficulty Level: (1): The LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Philadelphia was very easy to access from South Jersey, under a one-hour drive away. It’s in a great location for the tri-state area to enjoy it! It’s also super cool that there are so many other easily accessible locations across the U.S. for those who aren’t near LEGOLAND® locations.

Trek Budget: for under $20/ticket, families can enjoy a sampling of what LEGOLAND® offers! (guests under two are free)

3 Trek Must-Dos:

  • Check out MINILAND®! It’s seriously amazing! Be sure to stay around long enough for the Legos to light with lights and for the firework show!
  • Bring your daughters! Sure, we’re a boy family all the way, but the Discovery Center has an awesome area called LEGO® Friends which will appeal to the girly girls of all ages!
  • Try the NINJAGO Laser Maze – on the highest level, it’s super hard! It’s even fun for adults to try to beat.

Landon’s Trek Tip: “Hold down the buttons on the Imagination ride to score the most points”.

XO, The James Family

Trek Sponsor: *A special thank you to LEGOLAND® Discovery Center who helped provide this amazing family experience for us at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Philadelphia!
